REVIEW: PYNES

If you haven't heard of Brisbane outfit PYNES yet, now would be as good a time as any to go and check out the debut single 'Lighting Fires' that the band released last month. The three-piece are subtly becoming a force to be reckoned with within Brisbane's live scene. Without playing too many shows PYNES has built their reputation and are my pick for 'band to keep an eye on' for the rest of the year. Members featuring Mel Tickle, Patrick Elliot (former Little Scout) and Jacob Hicks (former re:enactment and Mr Maps) create a very interesting blend of jangly shoegaze with indie pop/rock. I don't really know how to explain it - but it is good. Very good. PYNES opened for Olympia at Black Bear Lodge on Friday night and made an impact which left the full room wanting more. Make sure you add this band to your watch list as I am sure there are plenty more exciting things to come.
