PREMIERE:
C O L T S
Introducing C O L T S and their debut offering 'January'. C O L T S is the latest writing project for Brisbane based musicians Adam Head and James Gatling who have spent the past 6 years contributing the the local scene in acts such as YELLOWCATREDCAT, Jouk Mistrow, FeelsClub, Rattus Rattus and many more. January is the first chapter in their 12 part ‘Calendar Collective’ series.
The series sees a song built around one of their poems and each paired with a different month of the year. Lyrically the series covers a wide range of hard hitting, deeply personal themes such as addiction, suicide and mental health with January focusing on the disintegration of relationships. Filling out the lineup for C O L T S is Joey Touk (bcharre), Lisa Murr (Average Art Club, Pleasure Symbols) and Thomas Kinsella (Finance) whose eclectic musical backgrounds provide a unique amalgamation of genres.
Recorded at Bedlam Records with Brock Western and mastered by Tyson Ruth, January infuses a driving rhythm section with hard-panned melodic guitars that duck and weave between each other resulting in a harmony that never seems to take a breath. Nestled in behind the guitars is the soaked choral vocals that is synonymous with the bands live performance. They swell in a repetitive drone that captures the essence of the lyrics and creates a unified sonic experience.
