INTRODUCING:
CANDY
I remember when I was in high school there were a group of bands whose names made it from the big cities and Triple J to my banged up old mp3 players in the small town of Pomona. Bands like San Cisco, Children Collide and Lunatics on Pogosticks (my little brother had the cat slug shirt and I was very jealous of that). Now a few years on, San Cisco are huge, Children Collide is lord Fascinator and Lunatics on Pogosticks are no more, but that's okay. Introducing Candy, the solo project of previous Lunatics on Pogosticks front man, Calum Newton. Since departing from his previous projects, Calum has been working hard to produce a unique blend of indie, bedroom pop that's full of energy and intensity.
After the release of three bedroom-pop mixtapes through tastemaker label Z-Tapes, Candy returned with strong lead single Apartment in the City from his upcoming debut LP Under the Weather. This was widely received well and prompted Newton to be asked to play as support for GUM and IV League, as well as his very own sold out headline show at the Gasometer. Calum has since been diligently working on the release of his album and today we're excited to bring you the second single from Candy, Hiding from the Sun.
Of the track, Candy says Hiding from The Sun is about the relentlessness of time and how we can’t escape our expectations of making the most of our selves. Sometimes staying in bed wallowing in our slow demise is all the motivation we have’. Hiding from The Sun is a fantastic follow up to Apartment in the City, rolling effortlessly from melody to melody, a strong indication of what exciting things are too come next from the wunderkind.
